RFEL : System Capability - Communications Design

RFEL personnel also have extensive experience in the optimal implementation of multi-channel digital receiver front ends for applications in communication systems.

Our system design expertise and library of unique IP cores allow us to provide front end filtering subsystems for high performance requirements. Use of multiple digital down converters in ASICs or FPGAs are common solutions but require large amounts of silicon and consume large amounts of power. RFELs unique tuneable filter banks offer a more compact and power efficient implementation.

RFELs extremely high speed processing capability often enables a much greater bandwidth containing a multitude of signals to be down converted and filtered into individual channels, and can also provide multi resolution signal monitoring where required by the application.

For evenly spaced channels, our off the shelf Polyphase DFT implementations are extremely effective at signal conditioning. The Polyphase DFT filters can be tailored for filter shape and adjacent channel rejection and can be maximised for optimum system performance. For designs where irregular or re-configurable channelisation is required, the Pipelined Frequency Transform (PFT) or Tuneable PFT designs are often the most relevant.

RFEL can provide a complete front-end subsystem solution including, for example, down conversion, filtering, rate conversion and carrier recovery. Typical receiver and transmitter system designs are shown below, showing the type of design issues that the company has experience with.

Typical Applications include:

Satellite communications, Wireless communications, Defence communications.

RFEL is actively engaged in subsystem design for a variety of customer requirements and are available for free, no obligation, initial concept discussions.
