Thales Defence have commissioned RF Engines Limited (RFEL) to undertake a study and system modelling contract focussing on advanced digital signal processing techniques. The programme will include RFEL’s patented Pipelined Frequency Transform™ (PFT) and other advanced FPGA-based signal processing architectures.
The initial phase of the contract is to study how the unique architectures developed by RFEL can be fully utilised to meet the demanding requirements of Thales’ next generation of defence related products. The second phase of the contract is to provide system models for the generation of high specification FPGA designs. Ultimately a hardware demonstrator platform will be produced for prototype use.
A Thales spokesperson commented, “Thales is committed to sourcing the latest technology wherever it may be found, in order to provide its customers with the most advanced and cost effective systems. The study will enable Thales to select the best in class solutions for its next generation of defence electronic systems. RF Engines have some unique solutions to problems that will benefit our customers.”
John Summers, RFEL’s VP of Sales and Business Development, commented, “The contract with Thales in advanced signal processing applications is yet another verification of the work and specialist knowledge that we have built up over several years. Our strategy of providing a mix of consultancy, system design solutions and off-the-shelf IP cores has proved very successful. Having a focussed speciality in signal processing, coupled with extensive systems design experience, enables us to provide highly optimised and cost effective solutions for customers.”
