Heading : RF Engines Ltd sponsors two MSc awards
Newport, Isle of Wight, UK - February 24, 2009 --
RF Engines Limited (RFEL), who specialise in high
performance signal processing design work, is sponsoring
the 2009 MSc in DSP programme at the University of York.
The company is providing two special awards of £1500
each that will be presented to graduates of the course --
firstly for 'excellence in theoretical signal processing'
and secondly for 'excellence in signal processing
design'.
"Over the past couple of years, we have developed a
close working relationship with the University of York's
Department of Electronics," said John Summers, RFEL's CEO.
"In fact, several of our staff are graduates of the
University's programme in signal processing, which focuses
on the latest techniques in FPGA-based digital design and
is probably one of the best programmes in the UK for
training students in advanced DSP techniques."
Doctor Yuriy Zakharov, Leader of the DSP programme,
added, "It is vitally important to provide students with
hands-on experience of the challenges faced in the real
world by working closely with industry. RF Engines is one
of the leading companies in the area of designing solutions
for challenging digital signal processing applications and
we are delighted that they share their expertise and
experiences."
The one-year full-time taught MSc programme in Digital
Signal Processing (DSP) starts in October 2009 at York
University. This programme will teach the theoretical
foundations of DSP methods and develop skills in practical
implementation techniques such as FPGA design. The
programme uses the expertise of all the research groups in
the Department of Electronics to cover state-of-the-art
applications of DSP techniques to the fields of
communications, instrumentation, bio-engineering, medical
sensing, imaging and multimedia, amongst others. The MSc in
DSP is designed for graduates in mathematics, engineering,
physics or computer science, and will provide a good route
to a career in any of the varied industries that use DSP
technology for students with any of these backgrounds. For
