RF Engines Ltd (RFEL) design and manufacture advanced electronics products and systems. The company operates internationally in the communications, defence and government services market, and is established as a world-leader in digital signal processing on embedded systems.
The company is continuing to expand; building upon the significant commercial success achieved to date, and now needs to appoint a Senior Digital Systems Design Engineer to meet the increased level of project work.
Primary technical responsibilities
- Detailed system level studies, modelling, design and specifications for:
- Signal processing units within a larger design;
- Complete systems.
- Signal processing architecture development
- Implementation of high-speed signal processing designs in FPGA.
- Implementation of controllers, interfaces and other ancillary functions.
- Development, integration and modification of IP blocks into system designs.
- Generation of integrated FPGA design solutions targeted at specific FPGA/board platforms.
- Testing of cores / FPGA designs both in simulation and on target platforms.
Additional technical responsibilities
- Input into board design / interfacing.
- Detailed customer liaison and support.
- Formulating hardware and development timescale estimates.
In addition, the following sales support and customer liaison tasks apply:
- Provision of rapid technical responses to customer enquiries
- Support in preparation of sales and marketing literature;
- Assisting with the preparation of new sales bids, including technical proposals, interpretation of customer specifications and cost estimating;
- Customer liaison for assigned projects;
- Project management tasks for assigned projects including:
- preparing and maintaining project plans ;
- maintaining cost and timescale control;
- management of assigned project engineers.
- Generating appropriate project documentation, including:
- technical specifications;
- requirement specifications;
- test specifications;
- datasheets/user guides
The position requires very close working with the commercial and the engineering teams; consequently, the candidate must have the knowledge and the interpersonal skills to be able to fit into a very focussed group of people.
The successful person will be creative and energetic, and have the drive and enthusiasm to achieve their objectives. He/she must also have the flexibility to be able to adapt to working in a fast-moving SME environment.
Terms of Employment
The job will be based at RFEL's offices on the Isle of Wight. Salary is subject to experience. A package of additional benefits is available including health care and pension provision.
Due to the nature of the work undertaken by RF Engines, it will be necessary for candidates to obtain or already have UK security clearance, therefore all candidates, whether already a UK citizen or a foreign national, should have lived in the UK for at least 5 years.
