RF Engines Ltd (RFEL) design and manufacture advanced electronics products and systems. The company operates internationally in the communications, defence and government services market, and is established as a world-leader in digital signal processing on embedded systems.
The company is continuing to expand; building upon the significant commercial success achieved to date, and now needs to appoint a Senior Software Design Engineer to meet the increased level of project work.
Primary roles
- Implementation of embedded software within real-time systems
- Formulating software development timescale estimates
- Formulating software design / coding standards
Key skills
You will be degree qualified with some post-graduate experience, preferably in communications and/or defence systems design, and will be able to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and experience in most of the following areas:
- Embedded software for real-time systems
- Real-time Operating Systems
- Operating Systems (Windows / Linux)
- C/C++
A working knowledge of one or more of the following areas would be an advantage:
- Formalised software design methodologies
- PowerPC
- Digital Signal Processors
- Basic signal processing algorithms and architectures (FFT, FIR filters).
- Physical layer communications (modulation/demodulation, equalisation, coding/decoding, satcoms, mobile)
- Hands on experience of software / hardware integration
The position requires very close working with the commercial and the engineering teams; consequently, the candidate must have the knowledge and the interpersonal skills to be able to fit into a very focussed group of people.
The successful person will be creative and energetic, and have the drive and enthusiasm to achieve their objectives. He/she must also have the flexibility to be able to adapt to working in a fast-moving SME environment.
Terms of Employment
The job will be based at RFEL's offices on the Isle of Wight. Salary is subject to experience. A package of additional benefits is available including health care, share options and pension provision.
Due to the nature of the work undertaken by RF Engines, it will be necessary for candidates to obtain or already have UK security clearance.
